A leading international healthcare group requested that Alams Consultants support them during a leadership training visit to Dubai. The client was responsible for a contingent of over five hundred delegates and had concerns for the security and safety of the visit, as tensions were high in the region. The ongoing conflict in Yemen and the massacre of western tourists in Tunisia were a cause for concern for such a big footprint from a prominent brand in the Middle East.
Alams Consultants had the specified task of security risk management and health and safety management for the visit. The main objectives of which were to identify potential threats and mitigation measures for the security of the staff and examine the existing fire safety and medical capabilities of the proposed venues.
Alams Consultants assessed the client’s current practices and procedures, producing a detailed risk profile for the UAE and the activities to be undertaken. The output identified significant risk with regards to cultural awareness. To safeguard the client from brand and reputational damage Alams Consultants formally educated all members of the delegation on all cultural aspects that would affect the delegation during their visit to Dubai via Alams Aware. This action reduced the probability and impact of any potential social misconduct situation and safeguarded staff from threats specific to the UAE and from travel in general.
Site surveys of all venues were conducted by the Alams Health and Safety team, identifying weaknesses in existing health and safety architecture. Risk assessments delivered to the client informed decision making on the way forward to incorporate best practice.
Overarching impact mitigation was delivered by the provision of legal coverage from a team specializing in issues that are predominant to short-term visitors. This failsafe mechanism was added as an additional investment to insure crisis scenarios were negotiated effectively and with minimum disturbance to the activity.
The delegation did not suffer any cultural incidents or become a victim of any crime or physical harm. Any venues found to be deficient in fire safety capability were enhanced to international standards for the duration of occupation by the delegates, resulting in no incidents.
